Idcab: the chauffeur-driven car service offered by France’s national rail service SNCF

Taking a SNCF taxi with Idcab
02 May 2017

According to recent studies, more and more passengers are using the French SNCF’s new service Idcab . This chauffeur-driven car service offers passengers the chance to book a vehicle between their home and the train station they are travelling from/to. Life-changing for business people who travel regularly across France, this chauffeur-driven service has been a huge hit in recent months. Our article aims to tell you more about all of the great advantages of this new service, giving you the low-down on how to book for a successful journey home.

What is the SNCF and what is their taxi service?

The SNCF is the Societé Nationale des Chemins de Fer Francais; in other words, the “National Society of French Railways”. This government-run body offers the best, high-speed train services to all corners of France. And if you’ve never heard of Idcab, let us introduce the great new taxi service offered by the SNCF. In short, the company launched this chauffeur-driven service a few months ago to make train passengers’ lives easier. With Idcab, passengers are safe in the knowledge that a personal driver will be waiting as soon as they step off the train platform. No more worries about missing the tram; no more stress as you wait in the rain for the bus. With Idcab, you can book a chauffeured vehicle for easy door-to-door travel in no time at all – and at a set price.

It all sounds great – but how do I book Idcab?

If you’re eager to try this new service, read on to find out more about booking a taxi via the SNCF. There are four main stages to follow:

  • Firstly, make sure you’ve got your train ticket on hand, which features your unique customer reference number.
  • Next, go to the SNCF’s website. Under the tab Idcab, you’ll be asked to enter your details (and customer reference number) after clicking on the option “book your taxi”.
  • You’ll then be asked to enter the time, date and address for the journey you want to make.
  • Once you’ve made your booking, a confirmation email will be sent to your email address. If you can’t find it, you may need to go back to the site and try again.

Why travel with Idcab’s chauffeur-driven vehicles?

There are a wealth of advantages to travelling with Idcab. One of the biggest benefits is that you won’t have to wait in line for a taxi when you arrive at the station. The price of your journey is fixed in advance, unlike regular taxis. And finally, the system allows you to pay in advance, meaning that there is no worry about having enough cash on your person.
Taking an SNCF taxi also gives you a peace of mind that is often difficult to find in France’s biggest cities. A businessman travelling from Paris to Nantes won’t have to worry about the complicated public transport networks in a town he doesn’t know. In fact, we’re convinced that Idcab is on the cusp of becoming the businessman’s new favourite travelling companion. We hope you’ll try out the SNCF taxi service soon!
