23 May 2017

Looking after our planet for future generations to come is an important issue close to many people’s hearts. This is especially true given recent concerns of accelerated climate change. That’s why we are here today to tell you a little more about a recent initiative which has sparked our interest as well as attracted many passengers since its creation. This is the initiative of green taxi , also known as eco-friendly vehicles. We’re hoping that as a reader of this article, you will be equally interested in this new concept. So sit back, relax and enjoy finding out more about green taxis: get ready to try out a vehicle that offers you all of the comfort and ease of a classic cab, but looks after the planet, too!

Eco-friendly taxis: the beginnings of a successful initiative

You may not have thought it possible, but you no longer have to make a difficult choice between using a car and doing your bit for the environment! Eco-friendly taxis offer the chance to tick both boxes. What’s more, this is the case for any city in France. Green taxis really are taking off across the country. But where did the idea spring from?
The history of green taxis has its roots in London around ten years ago. Indeed, since 2007 this has been a growing trend. Tried and tested for the first time by the British, the first appearance of an eco-friendly cab was in London with the company Greetomatocars, who began using hybrid taxis in 2006. A few years later, after the lightning success across the Channel, the French wanted in and decided to launch their own initiatives for green taxis.

Green taxis: a popularised form of travel

In actual fact, eco-friendly taxis allow the public to go about their daily business, all the while protecting the planet from over-pollution. Believe it or not, green taxis reduce CO2 emissions by up to 50%. This mind-boggling statistic is why the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, has decided to encourage these green taxis as much as possible by subsidising the costs of those buying hybrid vehicles by up to €3000. There are some conditions in play, however, such as the fact that the vehicle must not emit more than 120g of CO2 for every kilometre travelled.
Having said this, growing French interest in the initiative means that reserving a green taxi is possible pretty much everywhere in the country: Bordeaux, Lyon, Nantes or Toulouse – just to name a few cities. And if you’d like to find out more about reserving an eco-friendly taxi in Toulouse, just click the link to go straight to our article.

Hybrid taxis: how should I book one?

To help you organise your own trip in a green taxi, the procedure is very similar to normal taxi bookings in France. All you need to do is make sure you’re contacting a company which specializes in hybrid vehicles. We can recommend using G7 Green who have a fleet of over 3000 environmentally-friendly vehicles – or 40% of their total cabs.
Many of you have already asked us for the number of a reputable French green taxi service. With G7 Green, you can dial 3607 and you will be put directly in contact with this company. However, if you’d prefer to go online to do the job, you can use their website or download their mobile app.
However, some of you may be wondering about the price, especially if you think that paying for a hybrid cab could be more expensive than a usual one. Don’t worry – in actual fact, prices are more or less the same between normal cabs and eco-friendly ones. Essentially, travelling green and looking out for the environment won’t cost you any more than usual. We really advise you to keep this article in mind, the, for next time you need to book a taxi!
