Night taxis: everything you need to know

Booking a night taxi : our advice
07 Jan 2017

In Paris and many rural towns, the majority of taxi rides are made at night when public transport is practically impossible to find. You may need to take a night taxi to get home from a night out or get to the airport – amongst many other reasons! We’ve put together some advice and information to help you when you want to book a night taxi.

How do I book a night taxi?

Need to get home after a long night out with friends, but you’ve missed the last bus or tram? Or maybe you find yourself needing to get to the airport for an early flight? Nothing to worry about – your best option for travelling at night is a taxi.

Night taxis: book in advance

If you’re going to see a late-night opera showing or taking a plane at dawn, you’ll probably need to take a night taxi. When you know what time you’ll need your night time transport, you can book a taxi in advance. All you need to do is call the taxi company of your choice, contact them online or even use a mobile app.

Finding a taxi at night

If you need to take a taxi at night to get home from a night out with friends, you can also look for one directly in the street. Although this solution is possible if you live in a large town near the city centre, be careful – it will be practically impossible to find a night taxi in a small rural town or residential area. Our advice is to therefore book your taxi in advance.

Night taxis: how much do they cost?

Need a night taxi but worried about breaking the bank? It’s true that a lot of taxis increase their prices at night time. But this doesn’t necessarily mean it will cost you a fortune. Depending on the region of France, night hours are fixed between 7-8pm to 7-8am. The prices vary depending on the company – so if you want to work out how much it’ll cost, get in touch with your company of choice in advance.

Travelling at night: are taxis safe?

Many cities have a variety of different night time transports available, but the safest way to get around after dark is definitely by taxi. Trams, buses and the underground are unfortunately the scenes of a fair amount of crime, especially on the weekends. To ensure your own safety, why not opt for a night taxi and avoid an unwelcome situation?
